Winter Activities

Winter on the Arlberg doesn’t need any major introduction. As the cradle of alpine skiing and as the home of great skiing legends, the Arlberg doesn’t require any great hymns of praise.

Out of the door. Into the ski paradise. The Ski Arlberg area has a total of 305 kilometers of slopes. Your entrance from Zug to the largest ski area in Austria and the best in the world is on your doorstep. Right next to the winter hiking trails, cross-country ski trail, horse-drawn sleigh route, toboggan run, snowshoe tours and other tempting sides of the white winter splendor.

Dreamlike winter days in the snowy mountain world around the Rote Wand are waiting for you.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Zug / Lech is part of Ski Arlberg, the greatest skiing area in Austria: it is now also officially the best skiing area in the world.

Not only is it the cradle of alpine skiing but also – on the Zugerberg line – it is home to the Walch´s Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel. Ski-in, ski-out is the magic word that, in just a few minutes, transports you from your breakfast table to the slopes.

An average of 7 metres of new snow per winter and 68% mechanically snow-covered pistes make Ski Arlberg into one of the most varied skiing areas assured of snow in the world. At altitudes between 1,300 and 2,800 metres, 88 state-of-the-art cable cars and lifts await you – many of which featuring the Arlberg invention of seat heating – 23 skiing conveyor belts on the nursery slopes and the beginners’ areas, 305 km of ski runs at all degrees of difficulty, 200 km of deep-snow slopes, over 1,000 top-trained snow sport instructors in numerous ski schools, fun parks, permanent racing tracks and the loveliest freeride runs to be found near and far.

The “White Ring” is the greatest experience around for enthusiastic skiers. The legendary skiing trail from Lech, via Zürs, to Zug and Oberlech is something you have to have done. At last once in their lives. Naturally, the more often, the better.

By the way:

Our ski depot appears in new splendor. In addition to private ski boxes incl. ski boot heating, an artistic sound installation by Johannes Schwaninger & team awaits you. Listen yourself.

In the in-house ski store and rental, which also appears in new splendor, you can rent your ski and snowboard equipment at Marco Ender in the “full service” quite comfortably directly in the hotel. Marco also offers service and sales. Drop by. Open daily from 8.30 am to 6 pm.

Winter Hiking

Discover the numerous winter hiking paths in Lech and Zug am Arlberg.

For those who prefer to enjoy the snow-covered winter landscape on foot, by taking a walk or a winter hike, Zug / Lech am Arlberg has an extensive network of peaceful winter hiking paths for pleasing the eye with its many sights and vantage points.

Over 40km of well-tended winter hiking paths round Lech and passing the Rote Wand taking you to the idyllic Zugertal cross through the unique winter landscape up here.

Your constant companions: the refreshingly clear winter air, the crunchy snow underfoot and the breath-taking panorama of the mountain peaks.

Cross-Country Skiing and Skating

Beautiful scenery and cross-country ski runs offering a great deal of variety make Zug / Lech in Vorarlberg into a truly rewarding holiday destination for cross-country skiers.

Beginners and advanced skiers alike can find four perfectly prepared cross-country ski runs within the immediate vicinity of the Walch´s Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel. Thanks to our altitude of between 1,450 and 1,773 metres above sea level, the cross-country skiing area around the Rote Wand via Lech as far as Zürs am Arlberg is generally assured of snow between early December and late April.

If you don’t own your own cross-country skis, you will find a selection of the season’s latest models available to rent at our in house ski shop at Marco Enders’ “Full Service” , or at Sportalp and Strolz.
